Based at Ardnasillagh Lodge on the shores of Lough Corrib near Oughterard, he offers guided fishing and casting tuition for anglers of all levels — from complete beginners to experienced competition fishers.
A member of the Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland (TAFI), Basil has represented Ireland at European, World and Home Nations international fly fishing competitions. His domestic competition record is exceptional — he has won the majority of Ireland's major lake events over several decades, and in one remarkable season became the first angler to win four major inter-provincial competitions in the same year across TAFI and ITFFA.
Basil ties his own flies specifically for the western lakes under his Flies of Ireland brand. Boats and engines are available from his private moorings at Ardnasillagh Lodge, which also provides on-site accommodation, making it an ideal self-contained base for a Corrib fishing trip.
