The harbour at Greystones provides sheltered fishing for a wide range of inshore species. Mackerel arrive in summer and can be caught in large numbers from the harbour walls. Dogfish, Pollack and small Coalfish are accessible to beginners fishing light rigs from the pier. The shingle beach stretching north from the harbour produces Bass, Smooth Hound, Whiting and Flatfish — the famous stretch known as the 'Hungry Acre' has an unpredictable reputation, capable of producing excellent sport but equally capable of extended blank periods with no apparent cause.

Greystones is one of the easiest east coast sea venues to access. The DART commuter train connects it to Dublin in under 40 minutes and the harbour is a short walk from the station. This makes it genuinely viable as a half-day visit for Dublin anglers, and the developed harbour infrastructure provides good facilities. The town itself has a strong food and café culture and is well served for accommodation.
The harbour development in recent years has modernised facilities significantly. The combination of accessibility, variety of species, and the proximity of serious offshore specimen grounds makes Greystones a strong all-round east coast venue.

The Hungry Acre
The shingle beach south of the harbour has an almost legendary reputation among east coast shore anglers. When it produces, it is excellent for Whiting, Dogfish, Bass and Smooth Hound. When it doesn't — and it often doesn't — the cause is unclear. The uncertainty is part of its character.
