Lough Corrib

Headed out from Greenfields in Oughterard around half nine with a southwest wind pushing nicely across the lake. Started drifting over the shallows near Birchall and had a fish come short on a Claret Bumble within the first hour. Switched to a team of Bibio on the top dropper, Green Peter on the middle, and a Murrough on the point — that combination worked well for the rest of the day. The best spell came between one and three when the cloud thickened up and a light drizzle set in. Took three fish in quick succession off Rabbit Island, all on the Bibio fished just under the surface. Beautiful wild brownies averaging about a pound and a quarter, deep gold with vivid red spots. Conditions eased off around four and the fish went quiet, so we worked back towards Baurisheen Bay for the last hour. One final fish came to a dry Spent Gnat in the calm — a lovely rise in flat water. Five fish landed from seven hooked, all carefully released. A proper day on Corrib.
